Для оправдания враждебных деяний против цивилизованного человечества гитлеровский фашизм пытается создать подобие идеологии: герр Альфред Розенберг, уполномоченный фюрером руководить так называемым национал-социалистическим воспитанием, объявил ее новой мировой философией.

Но идеологи самого реакционного слоя буржуазии не могут создать научную философию, поскольку настоящая наука неизменно устремлена прочь от всего устаревшего и реакционного. Поэтому фашисты вынуждены прибегать к псевдонаукам, выбирать из архивов прошлых веков все самое реакционное и стряпать из этого искусственную мистическую философию, сводящуюся к отречению от всего живого на этой планете.

Основой этого реакционно-мистического фашистского мировоззрения является так называемая расовая теория.

Фашисты представляют эту теорию ультрановым и оригинальным немецким изобретением. Однако история говорит нам, что с древнейших времен поработители народов заявляли о своем данном от природы превосходстве над побежденными.

Происхождение фашизма

В Средние века феодалы щеголяли своей голубой кровь, которая якобы давала им естественное право эксплуатировать массы; они были основателями скотского феодального культа расы.

Учение о превосходстве одной расы над другими в своей новой форме тоже изобретено не немцами, а французскими реакционерами графом Анри де Гобино и юристом Ваше де Лапужем, оно легло в основу их теории о якобы существующей естественной нужде одной нации доминировать над другими и одного класса над другим. Эта теория капиталистической эксплуатации и империалистического угнетения была впоследствии развита так называемыми антропо-социологами современной империалистической эпохи (Х.С. Чемберленом, Аммоном и прочими), дожила до наших дней и подхвачена идеологами немецкого фашизма.

Таким образом, арийцы положили в основу своей, как они ее называют, «нордической философии» идеи других рас, в том числе, говоря фашистским жаргоном, не-арийских. (Достаточно вспомнить, что правители древнего Израиля, поработители Палестины, надменно называли евреев народом, избранным Богом).

Неубедительность расовых теорий

Фашистские расовые теоретики во главе с Гансом Ф.К. Гюнтером, как и их предшественники, начали с попытки упрочить антропологическую основу своей теории. Но все их усилия только подчеркнули ошибочность любой современной антропологической классификации человеческих рас и глубоко антинаучную природу так называемой «расовой диагностики».

Стало очевидно, что у фашистской расовой теории нет ничего общего с научной антропологией, которая объективно изучает и материалистически объясняет происхождение, развитие и смешение рас. Кроме того, герр Гюнтер заявил, что «нордическое движение — это не только бессмысленная болтовня о белокуром народе» и что дело не в объективных внешних характеристиках, а во «внутренней, нордической идее».

GERMAN race «theorists» maintain that the most gifted and noble people on earth are the «pure Aryans» of the Nordic race. The distinguishing characteristics of this race are fair hair, blue eyes and an elongated skull.

Now that «racism,» which 10 years ago was the private affair of a few reactionaries, has become the official credo of German, Italian and, to a considerable extent, Japanese fascism as well, it is necessary to analyze it carefully.

Race theories have their roots in the distant past. At all times and in all countries the ruling classes have sought to justify their «right» to dominate in the eyes of the masses. Even in the ancient times slaveowners maintained that masters and slaves are creatures of different species, one of them predestined «by Nature herself» for slave labor, the other, for domination.

Attributes of Soft Life

In the feudal period the nobles sought to prove their superiority over the serfs by the physical attributes of soft living: «delicate» features and white hands with transparent skin showing the veins in which flowed the «blue» blood that was the mark of nobility.

When the Europeans commenced to colonize non-European countries, the physical distinctions between the indigenous population and the Europeans served as justification for the plundering and annihilation of the «colored» peoples, the «savages» who were placed in the category of «lower races.»

All these false theories that have been accumulated during the centuries and which are permeated through and through with the slave-owning spirit are now being utilized by fascism both in foreign and in home policy. German fascism is seeking to justify its imperialist expansion by maintaining that the Germans, as a higher race, dominate over To the same end, fascist anthropologists take great pains to find the «Nordic German race» in those countries on which German imperialism has designs. ‘To unite all the Germans in one nation" was the flimsy excuse used to justify the seizure of Austria and Czechoslovakia. And this slogan the Germans are still flaunting with regard to th Baltic states, Alsace-Lorraine and many other parts of Europe.

It was for the avowed purpose of driving the «white race» out of Asia that the Japanese imperialists took possession of Manchuria and are now laying waste to China, destroying the Chinese people, a kindred race, and the cultural treasures built up by hundreds and thousands of Chinese generations. Similarly active is the «Italian race» which is seeking to establish its domination over a considerable section of Africa and southern Europe.

Aimed at Working People

The same «race theory» is used to suppress any protest on the part of the working people against the fascist dictatorship at home. In Germany any expression of unti-fascist sentiment is declared «treason to the race,» and any anti-fascist is forthwith branded a «non-Aryan.» The favorite object of blame for all the sufferings of the German people is the Jew who is used as the scapegoat to divert the wrath of the working people away from the fascist regime.

There are not the slightest theoretical grounds for «racism.» No universal race «theory» exists. Not so long ago European race «theorists» regarded the Mongolian race, which include Japanese well, as a «lower race» incapable of developing any civilization. The Mongolians were spoken of as a «passive race.» Moreover, shortly after the ad- vent of the fascist regime in Germany, the Japanese ambassador in Berlin had to protest officially against the treatment of the Japanese as a «lower race».

Поэтому фашисты были вынуждены отступить на позиции, менее уязвимые для научной критики и более подходящие для политических маневров. Укреплять их они начали с разработки своего «учения о душе расы», которое дало пространство для ультрареакционных небылиц и интерпретаций.

Расовый мистицизм тоже развенчан

Поскольку «теории о душе расы» невозможно доказать с научной точки зрения, фашистские идеологи были вынуждены искать более надежное укрытие от научной критики: они обратились к биологическому агностицизму (Гюнтер, Ленц, Крик). Лидеры Национал-социалистической партии, в свою очередь, объявили культ «расового стержня» (Гитлер), «верности крови» (Розенберг), «немецкой религии» (Ревентлов), мистицизма «крови и почвы». Это больше подходило для оболванивания масс, их эксплуатации и подготовки к новой кровавой бойне во славу немецкого империализма.

Этот абсурдный расовый мистицизм был объявлен научным, поскольку, с точки зрения фашистских псевдоученых, правда не в том, что соответствует объективной реальности, а в том, что идет на пользу фашистскому государству.

Расовая теория давно стала объектом насмешек цивилизованного мира, ее аморальные заключения порицают люди самых разных убеждений, включая деятелей католической церкви.

Итальянские насмешки над расовой теорией

Даже лидеры итальянского фашизма, до того как присоединились к оси Берлин-Рим, высмеивали расовую теорию, называя ее доказательством невежества, «философией для кур и лошадей» и прочими лестными эпитетами.

Но несмотря на то что расовая теория фашизма несуразна и похожа на бред сумасшедшего, у нее есть ясное политическое предназначение: усилить угнетение и эксплуатацию масс и уничтожить демократию и культуру.

На службе у врагов немецкого народа

Фашистский расовый миф направлен против интересов немецкой нации, большинство немецкого народа приносится им в жертву высшей цели некой мифической расы, за которой явно кроются интересы горстки реакционной империалистской буржуазии, магнатов-капиталистов, таких как Крупп и Тиссен.

Расовая теория немецких фашистов строится на том, что деление общества на классы — это «естественная биологическая потребность», необходимым условием которой является расовая селекция. Поэтому классовая борьба «неполноценных рас» (эксплуатируемых), против «высшей расы» (эксплуататоров) не признается, а интересы пролетариата и среднего класса жертвуются в пользу верхней классовой прослойки общества.

Blond-Brunet Contest

An even more striking example is the comparatively recent quarrel that arose between German and Italian exponents of race «theories.» As is known, the German race «theoreticians,» who have glorified the cult of the Nordic ne-tall, blue-eyed, blond- haired with the dolichocephalic skull-considered any type, even the European brunet, to be «not altogether Aryan.»

The Italian chauvinists held the opposite opinion. Marinetti, ideologist of Italian futurism and now also of fascism, tries to assure us in his verses that «the history of the world is made by brunets,» that «blonds are half-baked loaves,» that «one should eat well-baked bread.» Whereupon he proclaims «Long live brunets!» Indeed II Duce himself, as recently as German race 1933, ridiculed the «theorists» in an interview' with foreign correspondents and remarked that the theory of the superiority of the Nordic race over all nations and races of the world is not even a German invention but was borrowed from the French, from Gobineau and De Lapuge.

However, no sooner had an alliance been signed between German, Italian and Japanese fascism than the race dispute subsided and the race «theorists» of all three countries set to work zealously to find «kindred spiritual traits» among themselves.

WHAT does science have to say with regard to the diverse fascist and pro-fascist theories about «superior» and «inferior» races? Can there be any foundation for the fascist assertion that human races, which arose from various animal species, are imbued with instincts of hostility toward one another, that one race is destined «by Nature herself» to remain savage, while others possess highly developed abilities and have the right to dominate over «non-civilized» races?

The principal human races the black — (Negroid), yellow (Mongoloid) and white (Europeanoid) — differ from one another by a number of purely external physical distinctions.

Is it possible by comparing a member of the human race with a man-like ape to judge how far the one is removed from the other? Man-like apes, as is generally known, have comparatively long trunks and short legs. By this token the race farthest away from the ape would be the black race. A characteristic feature of a human being as compared with other Mammalia is its developed lips with their mucous membrane. No species of animals, including man like Apes, have such lips. Hence, by this token also the black race is most distantly removed from lower animals.

An analysis of other racial characteristics afforded an entirely different picture. At any rate there is no basis whatever for the assumption that one race is further removed or closer to other animals.

The three races mentioned are not distinguished from one another by any sharp lines of demarcation since among them there are a host of transitional stages and connecting links which are an indication of the deep-going blood tie binding all humanity. Incidentally, we might mention that the hair (the most strongly inherited racial characteristics of the Australian aborigines is similar to that of Europeans, while the shape of the nose and the lips and the color of the skin are Negroid. Europeans and Australians have a number of other common racial characteristics such as an abundant growth of hair on the body and the face. Mongols and Negroes have practically no hair on their bodies.

American Indians

In the American Indians a number of Mongolian characteristics (shape of nose color of skin) are and combined with European (shape of face). Thus it will be seen that even the basic races which appear to be strongly differentiated cannot be divided by any sharp border lines.

Soviet science considers the division of humanity into three races to be extremely conditional. As a matter of fact, each of these races can be divided into a number of sub- races, minor races differing sometimes radically from one another. For instance, tire black (Negroid) race includes the Bushmen and Hottentots who have Mongoloid characteristics such as yellow skins and protruding cheek-bones. In the white (Europeanoid) race are blonds and relatively there fair skinned and blue-eyed dark- skinned and dark-eyed brunets such as Gypsies, Italians and Kabyles (an African people).

We have already mentioned that the German race «theorists» include the Nordic race, the race of dolichocephalic blonds in the category of higher races.

We shall not attempt to determine the «nobility» of a race on the basis of the color of the hair or the eyes. This transcends the boundaries of science. As far as the shape of the skull is concerned the forbears of contemporary manhad elongated skulls exclusively, as can be judged from excavated remains. Up till now we know of three skulls belonging to the Java man (pithecanthropic) and a considerable number of skulls from China (synanthropic). All of them are elongated. We know something more about the Neanderthal man which represents the link between the ape-man and the modern man.

Репрессии против оппонентов

Все оппоненты фашистского режима были объявлены расово чуждыми элементами и жестоко преследуются как опасные враги немецкой расы. Фашисты дошли до того, что готовы стерилизовать оппонентов как «расово неполноценных», а расовые теоретики фактически одобряют такую изощренную жестокость.

Фашисты уничтожают великое культурное наследие немецкого народа, бесценные сокровища национальной культуры под предлогом «расовой чистки». Они культурно изолировали немцев и яростно борются с современной цивилизацией, которая объявлена плодом «еврейского интеллекта», «французского рационализма» и подобных «расово чуждых» факторов.

Оправдание завоеваний

Фашистская расовая теория широко используется для оправдания хищнических устремлений немецкого империализма. Под предлогом освобождения угнетаемых братьев по расе Германия аннексировала Австрию и значительную часть Чехословакии, а теперь планирует захват Данцига, Мемеля, Эльзаса и Лотарингии, части Бельгии, Голландии и Швейцарии.

Подготовка к масштабной войне с Францией и Советским Союзом преподносится немецкими фашистами как необходимая мера защиты европейской нордической расы от опасности, исходящей от «иудо-галло-негроидов» с запада и «монголоидов» с востока Европы.

«Арийцы» Востока

Расовая теория в новейшей гитлеровской интерпретации провозглашает расовое родство как родство душ и на этом основании объявляет японских самураев арийцами Востока и благословляет на союз с ними. После создания и укрепления оси Берлин-Рим в семью высших рас вошли и итальянцы. «Расовые теоретики» с готовностью назвали испанских и французских фашистов, русских белогвардейцев и других потенциальных союзников немецкого империализма представителями «нордической расы». Под предлогом расширения нордического движения немецкие агенты ведут диверсионную работу в скандинавских странах, Соединенных Штатах и других государствах.

Фашистский расизм неразрывно связан с пропагандой крайнего милитаризма. Особенная разновидность расовой теории представлена в так называемом «искусстве войны» Эвальда Бансе, который делит нации на две основные группы: 1) высшую или героическую, тех, кто видит смысл жизни в борьбе и войне (представители нордической расы, немцы), и 2) низшие или миролюбивые народы, стремящиеся к миру и спокойному труду (народы Советского Союза и «африканизированной» Франции). Военщина объявлена расовым предназначением немцев.

Аморальность и антигуманность

Бешеный расизм фашистов культивирует откровенную аморальность: он оправдывает умышленную ложь в гигантских масштабах, бомбардировки беззащитных городов, бактериологическую войну и подобные бесчинства во имя «высших целей расы». Уничтожая человеческую индивидуальность под предлогом «борьбы за единство расового духа», фашизм объявил войну свободе совести и преследует всех, кто осмелится поднять голос в защиту человечности, восстать против омерзительных слов и дел врагов человечества в коричневых рубашках. Даже христианская церковь не защищена от гонений немецких фашистов.

Таково лицо фашистской «расовой теории», таково настоящее предназначение этой «философии» погромов и войн.

Neanderthul Man

In all countries of the world with the exception of America, fossilized remains of Neanderthal man have been found in large numbers. Last year Okladnikov, a young Soviet scientist, discovered the skull and part of the skeleton of Neanderthal man in the cave of Teshik-Tash, southern Uzbekistan. It has been established that Neanderthal man, like the ape-man, had an elongated skull. The first short skulls appeared in relatively modern times. We will not irritate the admirers of the long-headed race by relegating them to the category of «primitives» and maintaining that the short-headed races are «superior.» The assumption on which the modern race «theorists» base themselves Is thus quite out-of-date.

Modern science has proved beyond all doubt that talent has nothing to do with the form of the skull session.

It follows, then, that the characteristics distinguishing one race from another are purely external and have no importance whatsoever as indices of the fitness for survival or adaptability to the environment. What is far more important is that while possessing the outward distinguishing characteristics, all human races without exception have common peculiarities which distinguish them sharply from all lower animals, including manlike apes, namely, the highly developed brain, erect bearing and five-fingered hand with a well-developed thumb, Anaxagoras, the ancient Greek philosopher, once said that «man is cleverer than all animals be- cause he possesses hands.» This is a profound thought, for only by using his hands has man risen above lower animals; by working with his hands he has been able to re-fashion na- ture, build up make his own culture and history.

Basic Features

No one can deny that any one of the three specific features of man, hands, legs and complex brain, are incomparably more important than all the racial characteristics put together. The highly developed ability for mental activity is the result of labor, of man’s desire to overcome the obstacles lying in his path, the result of effort to subdue nature and adapt it to his needs.

Study of the hands, legs and brain of man has shown that these three human organs are identical and function in the same way races.

We may say further that neither is blood any indication whatsoever of race differentiations since all the known blood groups are common to all races. From the foregoing it is evident that all human races, regardless of the outward characteristics of individual groups, are bound by blood kinship and are identical and of equal worth.

The German race «theorists» maintain that the Nordic race alone has created all the cultural treasures of mankind, that this race alone has built up human civilization. This absurd and misleading assumption is refuted by the cultural and historical material accumulated by science. The principal elements of civilization, such as fire, the dwelling, clothing, the bow and arrow, etc., developed quite independently along the same lines in all countries and among all peoples of the world.

As regards the uneven development of modern peoples, the great differences in the civilization and in the spiritual condition of the human races, as Taylor, the famous British ethnologist, correctly pointed out many years ago, depend rather on differences in development than differences in origin, and constitute rather a difference in degree than in quality.

Ancient Civilizations

The great civilizations of the ancients —the Chinese, Assyrian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Persian, etc.—developed in regions where there was no Nordic race whatever. This applies equally to the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome. While the peoples of Asia, Africa and southern Europe developed a relatively high standard of civilization several thousand years ago, the population of central and northern Europe, including the Germans, lived in a savage state. They knew practically nothing of agriculture, lived in primitive huts, and dressed in animal skins.

There is, of course, nothing surprising in that the ancient civilizations developed not in northern and central Europe but in southern lands where geographical and climatic conditions were favorable. Historical events, which occurred throughout the subsequent cen- turies and which we cannot go into here for lack of space, led to the transfer of the center of civilization from the Orient to the Occident. Today it is Eu- rope and America (which was settled countries) that are later than all other the centers of modern civilization.

But even in the 20th century, humanity, which has advanced tremendously, cannot do without the great inventions of the non-European peoples, such as the compass, paper, writing, the calendar, the art of melting metals, the domestication of cattle, the cultivation of edible cereals, etc. All these investments in the fund of human culture were made by the peoples of eastern Asia, Asia Minor and Africa. Thus, human culture is not the creation of any single people, but the product of the joint and many years' labor of the peoples of the various countries.

We deliberately speak of peoples and not races. For it is not races as such that make history but peoples who, as a rule, include representatives of various races assimilated throughout thousands of years of roaming over the face of the earth.

Mixing of Races

The higher the cultural level of a country, the more mixed its population is racially. The best proof of this contention is the population of Europe. Blonds and brunets, short-head- ed and long-headed, tall and short people can be found not only in a single European nation, but frequently in one and the same family.

If, nevertheless, the anthropologist studies the racial composition of the population, he is doing so to determine the dominant type in the population of the given territory. Such a study, if it does not pursue any ulterior aims, can provide very and does provide very valuable material for science. By comparing the modern racial type of one or another area with the fossilized re- mains excavated, the anthropologist can ascertain the direction the development in the racial type of the population has taken and determine to what races the peoples that inhabited the given area in ancient times belonged, whence they came and when. Such information is frequently the sole source of data for a historian.

Nevertheless, in the fascist countries there is quite an abundance of the type of «in-vestigator» who searches for the «pure» race, or, in other words, who argues about triangular circles or circular squares; the pseudo-scientist for whom the reactionary can always find some use, and whose «work» is generously remunerated in fascist countries. These anti- scientific theories about the human race, in the hands of the men who guide the destinies of the German people, have been turned today into a screen to musk and justify their conspiracy against peace, culture and progress.
